Client Story – Mastercraft Kitchens Tauranga
She had heard good things about Mastercraft Kitchens, giving her confidence that she could entrust her home to our Tauranga team.
Spending some time living in Rome influenced her aesthetic preferences when deciding on the design elements and materials in the final product. (Mastercraft were also commissioned to build a window seat, wardrobes, study, laundry, bathroom and fitted bookcase for the living room.)
So we caught up with Susan in her new home… interview below.
What were the crucial features you wanted in your new kitchen?
I was looking for robust materials – like the stainless-steel sink bench to leave appliances out on. Having an island bench was important to take advantage of the view, and I love wooden finishes. Additionally, I wanted a place in the kitchen to display my collection of ceramics.
How did working with a qualified designer impact the outcome?
We had good communication, which resulted in a kitchen design that I love!
What part of your new kitchen has made the biggest impact?
The whole kitchen is used, I could not pick just one thing! That said, I love cooking and there is plenty of space to hide cooking paraphernalia.
What reactions have you had from family and friends?
My sister loves the position of the sink on the island bench that makes the most of the views. And everyone enjoys sitting on the generous window seat, which is topped with oak and sits four to five people comfortably.
What could you now not live without?
I love my pantry which is unique and lovingly constructed. Also, all the drawers making accessing pots, cutlery, crockery and food easy.
What has having a new kitchen meant to you personally?
The last one I had was a cheap installation – badly laid out, and poorly constructed with limited storage. I have always gravitated towards the kitchen as it is the heart of our home. Our new kitchen is a great place to hang out, but also easy to clean and everything is accessible.
Renovating a kitchen is a big project, do you have any advice for others at the start of their kitchen journey?
Make sure you have plenty of easy-access storage. Having robust and easy-to-clean benches also, try and situate the kitchen so it has an outlook and plenty of natural light. Then bring in some plants to add a living element.

Display Home Fit-out
Leighton Electrical – Mastercraft Electrical Kerikeri Completed the electrical fit-off for the new Strand Homes Display Show Home in Kerikeri.
From the feature exterior lighting and Mitsubishi Electric heat pump installation through to the lighting, power, switchboard, and final fit-off — this home turned out unreal.
Big effort from our electrician Matt and the team delivering another clean, high-quality install with attention to detail throughout.
The combination of the brick finish, black fittings, feature lighting, and modern interior design came together perfectly on this build.

Another commercial security project completed by Smart CCTV, proudly installed by the team at Leighton Electrical, Mastercraft Electrical Kerikeri.

Island Paradise
The hero elements of this kitchen masterpiece are undeniably the two sensational benchtops crafted in Dekton Trillium and adorning both the central island and hob area. Dekton, a hard-wearing benchtop solution that utilises recycled quartz, porcelain, and glass, is a brilliant choice here – its industrial chic balancing the black and tan backdrop.
Elsewhere in this kitchen, the cabinetry skillfully juxtaposes contrasting features: Dark doors and drawers featuring a luxurious ‘Black Pearl’ finish interplay with light, wood grained Melteca doors and cabinets. Even the splashback in black bricks gets in on the act.
Throughout this kitchen, the central island, the brick splashback, and the contrasting cabinet finishes come together in perfect harmony, creating an inviting, functional, and unforgettable kitchen experience that is the hallmark of Mastercraft’s commitment to excellence.
Hazelnut Haven
The cabinetry in this kitchen features 18mm Plymasters Senosan matte black acrylic, which offers a sleek, modern finish. This dark cabinetry contrasts beautifully with the lighter tones of the benchtop, made from Dekton Aura 22 with a suede finish. This material was chosen for its durability and its luxurious feel, making it ideal for a space that needs to withstand daily wear and tear while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. A glass splashback in Dulux Opononi adds a subtle layer of texture and contrast to the overall design.
Functionality was further enhanced by the choice of Hettich Atira White soft-close drawers and Hettich soft-close hinges, ensuring smooth operation and a high level of convenience. For the perfect lighting, Stefano Orlati Extra Bright lighting, activated by a hand-sensor, ensures the space is always well-lit for cooking and entertaining
Dim the Lights
This luxurious kitchen, designed for a new build in Linton, embraces a sleek, aesthetic with dramatic flair. The dark tones of Raven Purematte and Coastal Elm Wilderness cabinetry create a moody yet sophisticated atmosphere, softened by theglow of the steam-punk-inspired pendant lights that hang over the bench top.
This design led by Mastercraft Kitchens’ Josh Cooper, exemplifies bold design and high-end craftsmanship. A central feature of the kitchen is the stunning Caesarstone bench top in Rugged Concrete, with a suede finish that adds a touch of texture to the sleek surfaces.
The combination of high-pressure and low-pressure laminates used throughout the cabinetry ensures durability while maintaining a streamlined look. Soft close drawers are Hettich Atira White and Blum Antaro White for the corners. The scullery, tucked discreetly behind a sliding cavity door, isjust as impressive as the main kitchen.
Featuring the same high-quality materials as the primary space, including Raven Purematte and Snowdrift Satin cabinetry, it boasts a double-door fridge and generous storage space. The raw nickel scullery bench top adds an industrial yet polished edge, completing the kitchen’s overall luxurious feel.
